AIGA Pittsburgh is proud to announce the submission period for PGH365, its annual juried show. With new lower entry rates, now is the time to show our community your perspective and voice in design. Submitted works are reviewed by a panel of nationally & internationally regarded judges, with work mounted in a show opening in late March. Entries open January 12, 2012. Get ready now.

PGH365: AIGA Pittsburgh’s Annual Design Competition and Exhibition is a celebration of the designer’s struggle and success in finding solutions that are effective, meaningful, and beautiful. Selected entries demonstrate the designer’s role and process, and the value of design to the community.

National artist Michael Lotenero will hold a special art show and sale to benefit Persad Center with a reception THIS Friday, November 11, at Bakery Square in East Liberty from 6pm to 10pm.

The event is Lotenero’s first local show in nearly five years and will feature samples from Lotenero’s large variety of work, including paintings, sculptures, and illustrations. Patrons are able to view and purchase these amazing works during the reception on Friday and when the show continues on Saturday, November 12 from 10am to 6pm.

Michael, who divides his time working and living between Pittsburgh and Brooklyn, has been working as a multi-disciplinary artist and designer for over 20 years. His clients have included The Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, Nintendo, IBM, Sony Pictures and Lowes. His work has been published widely in various publications including TIME, The Wall Street Journal, How Magazine, Graphis, London’s Computer Arts, BIg Magazine, The Book of Probes by Marshall Mcluhan (designed by David Carson), Big Magazine and Speak. His collaboration with José Muniain on the short film installation “Navarro”, which documented his painting process was a finalist in the D.C. Independent Film Festival and was featured at the Austin Museum of Digital Art and The Urban Institute of Contemporary Art in Michigan.

Recent projects include design and illustration for The New York Pro Show in New York City, The Quiksilver Pro Surf Competition in France, large scale and limited edition graphics for The Consol Arena/Pittsburgh, and a series of illustrations for the upcoming publication “The Book of Kink” by Eva Christina, Penguin/New York. His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the country including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. His work is currently represented by James Galley/Pittsburgh, MFI Art/New York, Art d’Art LLC/Phoenix and Zadok Gallery/Miami.

Proceeds from the sale of Lotenero’s artwork will benefit Persad Center. Persad’s mission is to strengthen the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV/AIDS communities and their allies. Opening night refreshments provided by Boyd and Blair Potato Vodka, Penn Brewery and FUZE.
